Myth is succeeding using the Internet and design
With the overall context of business goals clearly in mind, the Internet demands the coming together of both aesthetic and functional design. We use design to improve a business image and the business itself so that it operates more effectively.
An outstanding aesthetic design result for us is where the website designs we create express in true form the physical representation of a clients idealized self or business image. We achieved this result when the top tourism website award was presented to the Taieri Gorge Railway (www.taieri.co.nz), recognized for design by the leading online tourism authority, NZ Tourism Online.
As a creative firm operating in the Internet industry, we come up with new ideas to challenge the way that things have been done, utilizing design in terms of strategic business goals. The goal of Dunedin based The Photo Gallery was to develop a centrally controlled image display, selling and interaction system, feeding multiple and geographically diverse retail stores. To meet this objective we designed an Internet based integrated photo management and display system that could present photos for sale online, in addition to feeding interactive displays in their retail stores. This solution has meant the Photo Gallery can expand and duplicate retail stores quickly while also maintaining high standards in design.
Our functional design ethic flows through to enhancing workflow, processes and business systems. We use a design mentality to resist the temptation of added technological complexity when designing online applications. Our solutions must deliver value while being completely usable for everyone on a day-to-day basis. The following example illustrates how functional design can ultimately reduce the complexity of maintaining online content. For Ellis Fibre we developed a shopping website (www.ellisfibre.co.nz) and administration centre that could feed product to multiple online stores. This enables the website administrator to manage product content and online sales across multiple stores much more efficiently than otherwise would have been possible.
Myth has helped many local businesses to become successful
The Internet demands the coming together of both aesthetic and functional design, with the overall context of business goals clearly in mind. We designed an integrated photo management and display system that could present photos for sale online in addition to feeding interactive displays in their retail stores. This has meant that for minimal cost The Photo Gallery can quickly expand and control their retail operations by duplicating their existing system. Today the Photo Gallery has expanded from Dunedin, into Christchurch with a third store to open shortly.
Critical to the ongoing functions of the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust is that their managers have access to up to date financial information. With this in mind Myth developed a website (www.otagorescue.co.nz) to be used for communication with stakeholders in addition to a reporting system for mission data entry and reporting. Now the managers of the Rescue Helicopter have faster access to mission data and can clearly budget their resource requirements.
The Taieri Gorge Railway is symbol of the pride of Dunedin. Myth was brought in to develop a new website (www.taieri.co.nz) and now they conduct online bookings and have won the top tourism website award from New Zealand Tourism Online.
Myth has conducted Internet Marketing seminars for the Otago Chamber of Commerce and other Otago institutions in order to foster the growth of the Internet industry and the knowledge and capabilities of business people in Otago.
Myth has been actively contributing to the Tourism Sector
Tourism marketing has expanded rapidly online, to the point where the Internet is a primary vehicle for visitor destination activity and accommodation research. While other areas such as Southland, Northland and Auckland market themselves as a holistic regional destination, Otago tourism areas are more defined by Regional Tourism Organisations such as Queenstown and Central Otago. After identifying an opportunity for marketing Otago as a regional tourism destination, Myth Limited developed the Otago.co.nz website to promote the region as a whole, today this site and its partner site dreamofkiwi.co.nz reach over 200,000 visitors online a year.
Myth is contributing to establishing Dunedin as a recognized centre for ICT expertise
Myth is successful at bringing dollars from outside of Dunedin into the local economy. Finzsoft is a large software development company with a head office in Auckland. Upon doing a thorough analysis of website solution providers, finzsoft selected Myth for their design capability and technical expertise to provide them with a new website. Enabling Technologies Australian office required flash graphics to be created for their sales team. Myth worked with them to create visually stunning and interactive graphics.
