Case Study

Mohua Wines

Mohua Wines are a NZ based wine brand that distributes their wines exclusively into the US market.

Mohua enlisted our help to design and build a highly visual and dynamic website that stimulated interest in their brand, and provided some authenticity to the company and its operations by showing the people and vineyards behind it.

We held a discovery session with Mohua to gain a deeper understanding of their business. Naturally, the fact the wine was from New Zealand was a key selling point. But just as important to their US based customers was the fact they are a real, family run business – where father & son roll their sleeves up and get involved in every aspect of wine production. Customers also respected their philosophies around sustainable viticulture practices. These insights fuelled the decision to balance product content with featured content about these aspects of the brand. We held a photo shoot with the Mohua team, and worked closely with a copywriter to produce this content for the site.

Mohua make just two varieties of wine, from two of New Zealand’s most famous grape growing regions - Marlborough and Central Otago. The dual nature of their product offering was the catalyst behind the split screen design concept. We wanted to tell the story of each wine, and felt doing so side-by-side created an interesting juxtaposition. At certain stages, we morph content together to tell the story of the brand and the family behind it.

From a technical perspective, our development team used the latest techniques in web development to bring the design teams vision to life. The site is heavily optimised to work across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. The mobile interface in particular is built to behave more like an app, incorporating native touch and swipe gestures. The site is comprised of large format photography as well as video elements that represented an interesting challenge for delivering on performance and speed expectations. Our team used the latest cloud CDN software to ensure these expectations were met.
