Have a plan for business as usual and then plan for business unusual
Are you a small business owner? You might be experiencing decreasing demand or disrupted operations. This year has thrown some real curve balls at business owners.
As we approach 2021, the question arises as to where to from here? How might we modify or plan for a future that has more uncertainty than before?
Have a plan for business as usual and then plan for business unusual
Having scenarios planned out in advance is a nice way of exploring whether you have got things covered if the best or worst happens. Ask yourself “if we went into lockdown again for two months next year what could we do now to be better prepared to survive that”? Asking these sorts of questions tests assumptions and preparedness for eventualities. Ultimately it brings decision making into the present and away from the more stressful panic moments that might occur in the future. Creating some back up plans now gives you the time to put the safety structures in place to better protect your business.
Keep an open mind, be positive and see problems as opportunities
Let’s face it, life will throw some curve balls your way right! When this occurs its time to change. Isn’t that what the message is? Are you ready to make the changes necessary to ensure the long term sustainability of your business? This question requires you to focus on the future. It requires you to see the bright side. What is the bright side you might ask? The bright side is seeing the problem as a reason to change. Finding a new way to get things done or letting go of things that no longer work. Be positive and define a vision that inspires others to help you implement that change. You must accept that change is a natural part of life and you and your business must change too.
